Sharjah 24: The 13th Age Forum, organised by the Sharjah Social Services Department, under the theme "Artificial Intelligence in the Service of the Elderly", in cooperation and coordination with the World Health Organization, at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre, witnessed a dialogue session in which artificial intelligence specialists participated.
The first session was titled "The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Improving the Lives of the Elderly", in which Dr. Omar Ahmed Al Zoubi from Al Balqa Applied University - College of Artificial Intelligence in Jordan, Dr. Mohammed Al Loughani from Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Major Dr. Issa Ibrahim Bassaid from Dubai Police General Command, and Dr. Muhannad Atallah from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company - du - spoke.

Al Zoubi stressed that interest in artificial intelligence has become new to our daily lives due to the availability of databases in various fields, which provides the ability to process huge amounts of data and provide specialised solutions, especially since it came from many sources, including medical records, wearable devices, and records of homes and hospitals concerned with the elderly, contributing to provision of new solutions and policies and exploiting them effectively.

Al Loughani considered that the authorities have developed strategies and visions that are consistent with what artificial intelligence can provide and use it in the best way to serve the human element in various fields such as transportation, health, space, education and other vital sectors due to the presence and abundance of data and modern technical systems that have provided people and society as a whole with services that are capable of improving the quality of life, while noting the standard speed of use that serves the human element, and the interest in cloud care, which means storing data.

Al Loughani stressed the need to measure the impact to know the extent of the benefit or its reflection on digital services, such as studying the performance index to the extent of saving the material cost of social care resulting from the transition to artificial intelligence and comparing these services before and after its use and knowing the obstacles in its application and the extent of improvement in the condition of the elderly after the smart application.

Bassaid said that the Dubai Police General Command has proven its ability to employ artificial intelligence to serve the community and individuals, including the elderly, and the services it has provided are consistent with and stem from the Dubai Police strategy, which stipulates making the community happy and enhancing security and safety for all citizens within a clear policy. The Dubai Police, represented by the General Department of Artificial Intelligence, has won the NFT Global Award for the Best Government Project for Non-Fungible Digital Assets category, which is the first of its kind in the world, stressing the provision of the best and most advanced services in all departments in Dubai that work on the same approach.

He pointed out that the Dubai Police pays attention to enhancing the security of the elderly, which is one of the most important initiatives it is working on, represented in the security at the touch of a button initiative, which is a self-application implemented in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority to transfer people’s data and know their health problems. By simply pressing a button on a device placed on the wrist, all the data and coordinates of the calling person appear, so that they can be contacted immediately.

For his part, Atallah explained that du’s approach is to provide distinguished services to the elderly through a department dedicated to developing communication technology. It does not use the infrastructure to provide means of communication, but rather provides specialised services in digital health, as artificial intelligence is present in all industries, including healthcare. He pointed out that du is looking forward to spending more on healthcare and health services, and is currently working on providing a new service to avoid taking the elderly to hospitals, through a virtual assistant.
