Sharjah24: In the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Majid bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Head of Sharjah Department of Suburbs and Villages Affairs, the Health Promotion Department (HPD) of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah organized a ceremony to honor the participants in the first edition of the Health Promoting Schools Programme.
Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, this programme aligns with the department's efforts to promote the health of children and adolescents in schools, and it is certified by the WHO and UNESCO and other children and young people health organisations.
The honouring ceremony took place at Sharjah Education Academy and was attended by Her Excellency Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Promotion Department (HPD), partners’ representatives, the 36 members of the evaluation committee, the representatives of participating schools, and several health professionals.
For her part, Iman Rashid, Director, HPD, stressed that building a healthy society begins in schools, pointing out the need to provide a healthy educational environment that supports our children and contributes to creating a healthier and happier society. Her Excellency expressed her appreciation to all the institutions and partners for their relentless efforts to support the programme and make this project that aims to deliver a sustainable health education for community members a great success.
During her speech, Iman Rashid announced the launch of the second edition of the programme, highlighting the efforts of the participants in the first edition and the need to enable more schools to create a healthy environment for their students.
During the ceremony, 32 government and private schools were honored. Classification of the schools was conducted as per the programme’s standards. 15 schools met a minimum of 90% of the standards and received the gold category rating; 13 schools met a minimum of 80% of the standards and received the silver category rating while only 4 schools received the bronze category rating, meeting a minimum of 70%.
With aims to ensure a world-class school environment that helps students, teachers and administrative staff in Sharjah schools achieve peak performance, the classification process focuses on enhancing communication between individuals, institutions and society to provide a healthy school environment, while improving the health of students, school personnel and other members of the community through schools.
