Sharjah 24: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and the Sharjah Higher Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) have expanded the "Prevention of Heat Exhaustion and Diseases" campaign to raise health awareness among all segments of society, particularly workers exposed to the sun.
With the motto "Your safety is our goal," we launched the campaign in July and scheduled its termination for the end of August. However, due to its success, strategic partners from both the public and commercial sectors completed three additional phases in September.

The program's most recent phase targeted 1,150 workers in Sharjah's Hamriyah Free Zone, where the campaign team provided instructional lectures on the risks and symptoms of heat exhaustion, first aid skills, and preventative measures.

Free medical tests, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, eye, and dental exams, were also available. In addition, the workers received personal protection equipment, food supplies, drinks, and presents.

The initiative aims to reach over 6,000 workers, raising their awareness of the hazards of heat exposure during the summer and providing them with preventive measures to avoid heat exhaustion and other ailments.

This program is consistent with the Ministry's objectives to enhance public health and emphasises the strategic role of public-private partnerships in improving the quality of life in the UAE.

Since July, the Ministry of Health and the Sharjah Higher Council for Family Affairs, with the help of strategic partners, have carried out the campaign at various sites around Sharjah City, Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Khorfakkan, Kalba, and Dibba Al-Hisn, benefiting thousands of workers. In September, three additional sections of the Hamriyah Free Zone were completed.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Zarooni, director of the Ministry's representative office in Sharjah, stated that the campaign embodies the ideals of social responsibility by protecting the community's health and safety, particularly workers exposed to the sun.

He emphasised the government's efforts to defend workers' rights, secure their safety, and provide a healthy working environment in accordance with international norms. Al Zarooni complimented the campaign's partners for their contributions to its success, whether they were from the federal or municipal governments or the Sharjah private sector.

Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Education Department at the Sharjah Higher Council for Family Affairs, stated that extending the campaign till September indicates all partners' commitment to enhancing quality of life and public health.

The initiative aims to prevent workers from experiencing heat fatigue and develop a health culture that promotes healthy behaviour. She also applauded the beneficial collaboration among all parties involved, as well as the positive response from employers and employees.
