DoC in Sharjah launches 3rd Nigeria Arabic Poetry Forum

Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the third edition of the Arabic Poetry Forum was launched in Nigeria as part of the Poetry Forums Initiative in Africa. Organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture (DoC) in collaboration with the Charitable Foundation for Teaching and Disseminating the Arabic Language in Nigeria, the forum featured 14 male and female poets.
Held at the National Development Center in Abuja, the event was attended by notable figures, including the Advisor to the Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Mohammed Awal Al-Sudani, and a representative from the Nigerian Ministry of Education, Dr. Mohammed Al-Thani Ali, along with professors, students, and poetry enthusiasts.

Dr. Omar Adam Mohammed, the Cultural Coordinator in Nigeria, opened the forum, expressing his delight in welcoming attendees to an event celebrating Arabic poetry in Africa.

In his remarks, Mohammed II Ali conveyed deep gratitude to Sharjah Ruler for his support of poetry forums across Africa, emphasising their role in promoting Arabic culture and language.

Dr. Suleiman Osman Suleiman from Kaduna State University highlighted the dedication of poets to expressing their love for Africa and Nigeria through their work, capturing deep human emotions.

The readings showcased a range of themes, including love, hope, and homeland, with contributions from 14 poets. The forum concluded with a ceremony honoring participants with certificates of appreciation for their creative efforts, encouraging the ongoing pursuit of poetry.
