Sharjah 24 – WAM: Team Abu Dhabi’s Mansoor Al Mansoori outpaced favorite Rashed Al Qemzi to claim pole position for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Portugal, the penultimate round of the UIM F2 World Championship.
In a surprising turn, four-time champion Al Qemzi failed to make the top six in the qualifying shootout. Al Mansoori showcased his championship potential with a stellar performance in Peso Da Régua.

The qualifying session saw a dramatic twist when Mathilda Wiberg from Sweden, trailing Al Qemzi by eight points in the F2 title race, crashed heavily. Her mechanics now face a major repair job before she starts in fifth place tomorrow.

Lithuania’s Edgaras Riabko, who qualified third, is just one point behind, adding to the excitement for the season's finale in Portugal over the next eight days.

The season has been intensely competitive, evident even in today's practice session, where less than a second separated the top seven drivers. Al Mansoori was fastest midway through the session, while Al Qemzi struggled in eighth place, needing a new propeller fitted by the Team Abu Dhabi crew.

Despite a valiant effort, Al Qemzi couldn’t improve his position and will start from eighth, leaving the championship title race wide open.
