Sharjah 24: Friends for Diabetes Association, one of the associations affiliated to the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, has announced the successful conclusion of its "Prevention and Coexistence" campaign.
The initiative was carried out in partnership with Rahmania Mall, Sharjah Co-operative Society, Al Khalidiyah Suburb Council, Al Bataeh Municipality, Social Services Department (Al Bataeh branch), Sharjah International Airport Authority, and Mega Mall.
During the campaign, a series of educational and awareness workshops, led by a team of doctors and health specialists, successfully attracted a wide segment of the community. The sessions emphasised strategies for controlling blood sugar levels and promoting a healthy lifestyle, while also addressing potential complications associated with diabetes and detailing prevention methods.
The campaign was conducted in partnership with multiple government agencies, hospitals, and health centres, offering a mix of in-person and virtual workshops. The workshops have been conducted with the goal of enhancing the ability of the community to assist individuals living with diabetes. A comprehensive health exhibition has been launched, featuring a range of health screenings.
Free consultations were offered, alongside a specialised workshop entitled "How to Assist a Diabetes Patient," aimed at equipping participants to handle emergency situations involving individuals with diabetes.
Khawla Al Haj, Chairperson of the Friends of Diabetes Association at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, emphasised the significant community involvement in the campaign, which underscores its success in promoting health awareness regarding diabetes, its associated risks, and prevention strategies.
She continued that a total of 11 awareness lectures were conducted, reaching around 980 participants. Additionally, free medical screenings were offered to 1,190 individuals, resulting in the identification of 60 new diabetes cases. In a recent initiative, 2,000 gifts and nutritious meals were handed out to promote the adoption of healthy eating habits aimed at enhancing overall well-being. A dedicated survey revealed that the campaign attained a remarkable 99% satisfaction rate.
Furthermore, Al Haj highlighted that the achievements of the campaign over the years are due to the vision, guidance, and support of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. She assed that Her Highness’ contributions have been crucial in enabling the association to fulfil its objectives and connect with diverse target groups.
She also highlighted that the Friends of Diabetes Association, for this year’s campaign, is focused on diversifying the activities and events, aiming to engage all segments of society while bolstering its educational and awareness goals.
The campaign focused on multiple health issues associated with diabetes, promoting an effective plan for public health education. She thanked all sponsors and partners from the public and private sectors for their continued collaboration with the association, highlighting their role in providing essential resources for the successful launch of health programs and initiatives.
