WDU holds workshop on how to interact with Disabled at Al Thiqah

Sharjah24: The recently concluded workshop on strategies for engaging with individuals with disabilities, hosted by the World Disability Union for Al Thiqah Club workers, drivers, and 'Hala' employees at Sharjah International Airport, has left a lasting impact. The program, part of the union's initiatives, has not only educated and enhanced the skills of caregivers and support personnel for individuals with disabilities, but also paved the way for a more inclusive and integrated society.
The closing ceremony and certificate distribution were presided over by Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Vice President of the World Disability Union and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Club, Haider Talib Arbi, Secretary General of the World Disability Union, Ahmed Salem Hamad Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Thiqah Club for the Disabled, and Saif Manzoor, Director of Hala Services at Sharjah Airport. Dr. Tariq bin Khadim expressed that the courses aim to shift from a care-based approach to a development-focused methodology, emphasizing participation in society based on the principles of equal rights and duties, equal opportunities, and inclusion. This shift aims to integrate people with disabilities into social and economic life, allowing them to contribute to overall development.

He outlined that in partnership with the union, the club is focused on enhancing the skills of individuals with disabilities and fostering increased integration with other societal groups. The initiative aims to demonstrate the value of effectively engaging with disabled individuals in society, offering benefits and advantages for all.

Haidar Talib highlighted the efforts of the union in promoting awareness and facilitating the integration of people with disabilities into society through various programs and activities at the Federation’s office in Sharjah. He emphasized the UAE's proactive approach to social policy, ensuring comprehensive support and attention to the needs of individuals with disabilities. The UAE's commitment to upholding the rights of people with disabilities is evident through its religious, constitutional, humanitarian, and social obligations, positioning the country as a global leader in this domain.
