Sharjah24: The Sharjah Sports Club men's basketball team will kick off their participation in the inaugural Al Dhafra International Championship, which runs from August 26 to September 1, at the Al Dhafra Sports and Cultural Club hall. They will face the Armenian Urartu Club team on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
The Al Dhafra International Basketball Championship for men features five clubs in addition to the UAE national team. The participating teams have been divided into two groups. The first group includes the host Al Dhafra (UAE), Al Wahda (UAE), and Al Seeb (Oman), while the second group consists of the UAE national team, Sharjah, and Urartu (Romania).
The group stage will follow a single-round league system. The top teams from each group will qualify directly for the semifinals, while the second and third place teams will compete to determine the other semifinalists in a knockout format. The winners will advance to the final, and the losers will compete for the rankings from third to sixth place.
The participation of the Sharjah men's team in the tournament is part of their preparations for the new season under the leadership of coach Captain Abdul Hamid Ibrahim. The aim is to gain more experience against Gulf and European clubs, and to build the team's cohesion and adaptation before the start of the sports season, especially after Sharjah Club signed three professional players and two local players to strengthen the basketball team.
