Sharjah 24: Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) concluded the first regular session of the eleventh legislative term, in which members exerted great efforts to enhance their roles with society.
This session was distinguished by many achievements in the parliamentary field and community activities, which reflects the council’s commitment to serving the Emirate and its residents.
During this session, the council held 12 plenary sessions, which discussed five important draft laws, in addition to three general topics on policies of a number of departments, namely Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, and Department of Islamic Affairs.
Discussions resulted in the submission of 20 recommendations that reflect the visions and ideas of members to achieve comprehensive development in Sharjah, and to continue development of public performance and improvement of services.
Sessions were characterised by active participation of members, as the number of applicants and those requesting the floor reached 55 members, while the members’ interventions during sessions reached 150 interventions, which reflects the great interaction and keenness to discuss the issues in depth and comprehensively.
Within the framework of general discussions, members asked 144 questions, covering different aspects of community affairs in Sharjah and the work of government institutions, in order to enhance transparency and activate parliamentary oversight of government performance. The statistics of members’ interventions in draft laws reached 95 qualitative and distinguished interventions.
SCC committees, namely the Committee for Legislative and Legal Affairs, Appeals, Suggestions and Complaints, the Committee for Financial, Economic and Industrial Affairs, the Committee for Education, Youth, Culture and Media Affairs, the Committee for Health Affairs, Labour and Social Affairs, the Committee for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Municipalities, Security Affairs and Public Utilities, the Family Affairs Committee and the Committee for Preparing Draft Recommendations, also held 49 meetings, during which they discussed different topics to provide appropriate recommendations and reports.
Committees strengthened their field activities through 22 field visits, during which they were briefed on the progress of work in institutions and facilities, and through these visits they were able to identify the challenges and achievements on the ground.
SCC also held 5 meetings, during which efforts were coordinated and parliamentary work was directed to serve Sharjah interests.
During this session, SCC received 39 development proposals in a number of areas, in addition to receiving 61 personal and electronic complaints
His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of SCC, stressed that achievements would not have been made without the fruitful cooperation between members, and their keenness to activate the role of the council to make more achievements and gains through hard work, fruitful cooperation, continuous activity, and by presenting balanced ideas and observations to achieve the goals sought by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
