Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has won first place in the Sharjah Volunteer Award (SVA) for the Home Conservation Initiative as the best specialized volunteer initiative serving the community. The initiative has achieved significant positive results in instilling and solidifying the concepts of humanitarian and volunteer work.
His Excellency Abdullah Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, the Director-General of the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority, explained that the authority's winning of the Sharjah Volunteer Award confirms its commitment to its social responsibility and its concern for social issues, as well as its dedication to promoting the culture of volunteer work and community service. It also aims to foster a spirit of community cooperation among different segments of society, enhance human values, and implement the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the commitment of government entities to social responsibility and providing all the necessary resources for the success of volunteer work and the achievement of its goals.
The role of the Sharjah Volunteer Award in solidifying positive concepts, encouraging participation in humanitarian and volunteer work, and promoting competition in the field of goodness is highly appreciated.
he confirmed that the Home Conservation Initiative, which won first place in the Sharjah Volunteer Award as the best specialized volunteer initiative serving the community, was launched by the authority in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the allocation of AED 20 million to 4,500 citizens benefiting from the assistance of the Department of Social Services to upgrade their homes with modern, energy-efficient water and electricity technologies based on consumption studies. The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority launched the SEWA initiative for home conservation.
He pointed out that the initiative has achieved significant qualitative results in raising homeowners' awareness of best practices and taking various measures to reduce energy and water consumption, as well as security and safety measures. The initiative focuses on and cares for all segments of society, especially those included in the Department of Social Services.
He added that through the initiative, the authority provided and installed conservation devices free of charge in homes and equipped them with modern technologies that contribute to reducing electricity and water consumption. Over 81,167 conservation devices and pieces were installed, which contributed to a 63% reduction in water consumption and a 45% reduction in lighting consumption on average, thus transforming homes into environmentally friendly ones.
The award was received by Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of Corporate Communication Department, at the ceremony organized by the Sharjah Volunteer Award to honor the winners of its 21st edition among institutions and individuals. The event was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, President of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in the Emirate of Sharjah, at the theater of the International Organizations for Islamic Heritage at the Heritage Institute in Sharjah.
