Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority has added another international accolade to its record after its Zulal Water Factory secured a Gold Award at the 65th Monde Selection Awards in Belgium.

The factory was honoured in the water and beverage category, following an assessment that examined both the quality of its bottled water and the standards applied throughout the production process.

Independent judging

For more than six decades, Monde Selection has evaluated food and drink products from around the world through independent expert panels. Products are judged using laboratory testing alongside sensory assessments that cover factors such as appearance, aroma, and taste, with each entry measured against internationally recognised quality benchmarks.

The process combines scientific analysis with technical evaluation, making the award one of the industry's established indicators of product quality.

Recognition for years of investment

Majed Al Owais, Director of Zulal Water Factory at SEWA, said the award reflects the sustained effort invested in developing the factory and maintaining consistent production standards.

He said the recognition confirms that the factory's bottled water meets internationally accepted quality requirements while continuing to satisfy the expectations of consumers. He added that maintaining those standards remains a priority because drinking water is an essential public service.

Al Owais also said the achievement reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, whose support has guided the continued development of public utilities across the emirate.

Expansion plans

SEWA intends to build on the achievement by further developing the Zulal Water Factory. Future plans include expanding production capacity and upgrading manufacturing processes, as well as continuing to improve product quality.

The authority says the investment is designed to keep pace with growing demand for Zulal bottled water in Sharjah while strengthening the factory's position in wider markets.
