Sharjah24: Members of the Committee of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Municipalities, Security Affairs and Public Utilities of the Sharjah Consultative Council emphasised the importance of promoting virtuous Islamic values and developing various programmes aimed at preparing community members to understand the correct Islamic Sharia and Arab culture. The committee commended the significant role played by the Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department in caring for mosques, activating their mission, and addressing Islamic affairs in the emirate. This was highlighted during the committee's visit to the department yesterday morning.
The committee's visit was part of the preparations to discuss the department's policies during an upcoming general session of the council, currently being organised for the first regular session of the eleventh legislative term. The committee was chaired by Engineer Jamila Al-Fandi Al-Shamsi and attended by members Majid Ahmed Al-Darwish Al-Shamsi, Sultan Bin Dalmook Al-Suwaidi, Ahmed Obaid Al-Zaabi, and Salem Al-Rashidi. Also present was Dr. Sultan Al-Zaabi, a council member and the committee’s rapporteur for drafting recommendations, along with Amina Basleib, the council’s session affairs officer and committee secretary, and Islam Al-Shuwai, a media expert from the general secretariat of the council.
The delegation was welcomed by His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Yaroof Al Sabousi, Head of the Islamic Affairs Department in Sharjah, along with the department's directors, branch managers, and section heads.
In his opening remarks, Al-Sabousi expressed his gratitude to the council members from the Islamic Affairs Committee for their continuous engagement with the department. He emphasised that the department, guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, dedicates itself to serving the mosques, thereby fulfilling its mission effectively. Al-Sabousi acknowledged the valuable roles played by all institutions and community members in supporting and collaborating for the welfare of mosques.
During the meeting, the committee members discussed various issues related to the department's responsibilities and its role in mosque care. They also explored different perspectives and suggestions to enhance the department’s operations across all areas, continuing its programs and projects to serve Islam and ensuring the upkeep and cleanliness of mosques.
His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Yaroof Al-Sabousi and his team highlighted that the Islamic Affairs Department, as the entity responsible for mosque care and organising religious activities and sermons, continues to serve a wide segment of the community. They reiterated that the mosque is the cornerstone of the Islamic society, providing not just a place for worship but also serving as a beacon of knowledge, educating the community on Islamic guidance and noble values. The department strives to support the mosques' mission, improve the performance of all workers, including preachers, imams, muezzins, and administrators, through seminars, discussion meetings, and training courses aimed at enhancing skills and expertise.
In conclusion, Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi, Chairperson ofthe Committee, praised the department's efforts and its role in promoting its mission to reinforce values in the community, achieve greater cohesion among all societal segments, and address social issues through a moderate Islamic vision grounded in proper Sharia principles. She noted that this visit is part of the committee's preparations to discuss the department's policy during the upcoming session, emphasising the importance of understanding the various programs and plans to enable the department to fulfill its responsibilities and support its outreach activities and the imams’ roles.
