Sharjah 24: Young visitors to the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) got active and enjoyed a crash course in self defence as part of a physical education workshop.
The select group of students attending the session, conducted by Dubai-based personal training studio, learnt all about the basics of kickboxing as Ukrainian instructor Gregory Voronin demonstrated some of the most common moves involved in the full-contact hybrid martial art and boxing type based on punching and kicking.

"Kickboxing is not only a great form of exercise but also teaches important life skills such as discipline, focus and self-defence," said Voronin. "It's inspiring to see young children embracing the sport and enjoying themselves while learning something new."

The session was attended by children of all ages, who enthusiastically participated in the activities. Parents were also encouraged to cheer on from the sidelines, creating a fun and supportive environment for everyone involved.

"We're delighted to see our children engaging in physical activity and learning valuable skills that will benefit them in the long run," said one of the parents. "This festival provides a wonderful platform for children to explore new interests and discover their passions every year."

Seven-year-old Mohammad Suhail said: “I really felt good after this workshop. I enjoyed it so much because it was all about martial arts which I love.”

Meanwhile for six-year-old Abdul Ali, it was all about expressing himself through kickboxing. “I loved moving my hands and feet in the way the instructor taught. Makes me feel like a superhero now,” said the kindergarten student of Dubai Schools Mirdiff.

Led by professional instructors, the kickboxing session was a part of SCRF's diverse range of activities aimed at promoting health, fitness, and well-being among children. It provided participants with an introduction to kickboxing techniques, focusing on coordination, strength, and self-confidence.
