Sharjah24: During the National Reading Month in the United Arab Emirates, observed annually in March, the Central Finance Department in Sharjah launched the inaugural session of its "Reading Council" initiative for 2024 at the Flying Saucer Library. Attended by both male and female employees, the session focused on discussing "Atomic Habits" by American author James Clear.
In her address to the participants, Aisha Al Mazmi, the Secretary-General of the Reading Council, reiterated the department's dedication to nurturing this esteemed cultural initiative, first introduced in 2022. This initiative reflects the institutional values that prioritise fostering a culture of learning and continuous skill development among employees. It involves organising various initiatives and programmes aimed at promoting a reading culture, facilitating the exchange of insightful ideas and opinions, and selecting diverse book titles for discussion to benefit social and professional lives.

Al Mazmi emphasised the paramount importance of reading as the primary source of learning, aligning with the Emirate of Sharjah's agenda under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. According to His Highness's vision, reading plays a pivotal role in advancing nations towards progress and prosperity.

Furthermore, the significance of reinforcing employees' engagement with reading was underscored, recognising it as a symbiotic process between individuals and the work environment. The Central Finance Department acknowledges reading as fundamental to human culture, serving as a catalyst for employee development, knowledge expansion, and cultural understanding, thereby enhancing the institution and workplace environment. Encouraging a strong connection to reading is deemed essential, considering its reciprocal impact on individuals and their surroundings, making it a cornerstone of positive daily habits that enrich lives with meaningful value.
