Sharjah24: The Committee of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Municipalities, Security Affairs and Public Utilities of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) convened a meeting with the Municipal Council of Kalba City to address the collective efforts of Kalba Municipality and its partners in effectively managing the recent weather conditions that have impacted the state. They reviewed the professionalism and efficiency of the response mechanisms within the framework of joint action plans.
The committee received a detailed update on the preparedness measures implemented by Kalba Municipality, overseen by the Municipal Council and relevant authorities, to develop proactive plans for dealing with the rainy season. This includes monitoring meteorological forecasts and training qualified personnel in this field.
This came during the committee's visit yesterday morning, Thursday, to the headquarters of the Kalba Municipal Council, as part of the committee's activities for the first regular session of the eleventh legislative term.
At the meeting, being attended by several dignitaries, the attendees discussed various efforts, such as organising preventive campaigns to clean the drainage network openings on all roads. We also talked about implementing measures like isolating and erecting sand barriers to ensure we are ready to take immediate action in case of rain accumulation. In addition, work teams were sent to all projects well in advance of the winds, relying on meteorological forecasts.
The meeting extensively covered discussions on preventive campaigns aimed at clearing drainage network openings across all roads, alongside other measures. These efforts are intended to ensure prompt readiness and preparedness for immediate action should rain accumulation occur. Additionally, workers were dispatched to various projects well in advance of the expected wind escalation, aligning with weather forecasts.
The members of the SCC’s Committee proposed multiple proposals focused on bolstering efforts and fostering collaboration concerning the formulation of proactive strategies, improving readiness, and ensuring complete preparedness to address weather fluctuations.
Furthermore, protocols for coordinating with the relevant federal and local agencies to redesign Kalba City, taking into account the pathways of valleys and necessary coordination to mitigate the effects of rainfall in the short and long term.
In the meeting, Engineer Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al Naqbi, who serves as the director of Kalba Municipality, outlined the municipality's report on the recent weather disturbance in Kalba City. He covered various aspects, including the arrangements made, the mobilization of work teams, task prioritization, and the provision of equipment and machinery assistance. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of precision in promptly removing water accumulations, utilizing a range of equipment, machinery, and specialized technical teams that operated continuously.
