Sharjah 24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) won the Arab Digital Government Award for the year 2024, for the categories of government innovation and social responsibility, announced by the International Excellence Foundation (IEF), based in Florida, USA, and concerned with promoting the digital transformation of governments.
Aisha Hussein Abdullah, Director of the Strategy and Institutional Development Department at SEWGA, confirmed that winning two categories of this international award is a new achievement for the authority and reflects its continuous efforts to achieve positive results in accordance with its strategic plan supporting creative ideas and transforming them into a positive force that contributes to the development process. She added that SEWGA plans includes launching initiatives to support different segments of society by providing scholarships to students and encouraging participation in volunteer work, in addition to implementing initiatives to rationalise energy and water consumption and achieve sustainable development, in implementation of the directives of His Highness. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council, which aims to use advanced technology and rely on innovation in providing the best services to the residents of the Emirate of Sharjah and achieving excellence.
Aisha Hussein Abdullah explained that the Authority has begun implementing a strategy based on creative ideas and encouraging employees and community groups to participate in initiatives and commit to social responsibility, in accordance with international standards and in a manner that meets all requirements and specifications related to the standards and conditions of the 19th Arab E-Government Shield Award 2024, which is compatible with approved international standards, and contributes to developing institutions and companies in government sectors around the world and motivating them to perform better to reach the goals of excellence through a scientific approach based on international experiences and global best practices and relying on the capabilities of local professionals.
Aisha Hussein Abdullah added that the criteria for the award include implementing a clear strategy for innovation, flexibility, and the use of advanced technology, providing new means or solutions to the challenges facing the institution, developing plans to produce new ideas that positively affect the workflow, and enhancing creative energies.
