SRERD delegation visits Mleiha wheat farm

Sharjah 24: A delegation from the Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department (SRERD) visited the wheat farm in Mleiha, in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, to view this pioneering experience, which aims to contribute to achieving national food security, given that wheat is the basic pillar of the food security pyramid for peoples and nations.
Members of the delegation toured the farm and learned about modern methods of irrigating wheat fields using the latest and best advanced equipment that operates according to the latest water-saving technology, monitoring soil and plants water requirements, and using ground sensors and a weather station linked to satellites. 

The industrial sector works on capturing thermal images that are processed using specialised smart platforms that use remote control systems to operate pumps and irrigation devices, in order to obtain the best results from wheat according to the highest international specifications.

The attendees also learned about the strains and varieties of wheat that the farm laboratories are studying and developing to arrive at a variety specific to the Emirate of Sharjah that is compatible with its soil and local environment.

His Excellency Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Shamsi, Director General of SRERD, praised the great efforts made by Sharjah government to achieve national food security and sustainable development based on solid scientific and methodological foundations, in translation of the directives and visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, that aim to enhance and develop Sharjah’s agricultural experience, thus contributing to enhancing food security for Sharjah and the UAE.

The ambitious project comes within a series of major development projects launched by Sharjah government in the agricultural and livestock sector, the most important of which is the wheat farm project in Mleiha, where the government has allocated all capabilities, resources and competencies to use smart technologies in agriculture, and to benefit from these systems based on the latest innovations to overcome challenges, enhance production and preserve the environment.
