Sharjah24: With great success, the Sharjah Sports Council organised a festival of group games for the age groups of clubs in Sharjah and the Central Region in football, basketball, handball and volleyball. The festival started from February 26 until 29 in Al-Qarayen Park “3” in the emirate. This is part of the Council’s plans to promote the practice of sports in public parks and motivate students to join clubs.
Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, was keen to attend the festival to encourage the participants. He thanked the Sharjah City Municipality for its positive cooperation with the Council. He expressed his happiness at the success of the festival and its achievement of its societal goal with the participation of no less than 440 players. He also praised the efforts of the work team that supervised the activities, stressing the endeavours of the Council to organise such events and activities to enhance the concept of sports and make it a way of life for all members of society.
The festival also witnessed the presence of Mohammed Obaid Al Hossan, Director of the Sports Affairs and Development Department; Nabil Mohammed Ashour, Director of the Support Services Department; and Ahmed Al Salman, Head of the Community Initiatives and Events Department at the Sports and Community Events Department.
During its four days, the festival included categories for under 8 and 9 years of age in football, juniors in volleyball, young children in hand, and brownies in basketball. Six clubs participated in the festival: Sharjah, Al Bataeh, Al Hamriyah, Mleiha, Al Dhaid, and Al Madam. The players participated in daily training and exercises with great enthusiasm in the presence of a large number of families members and loved ones.
