February 28, 2024 / 6:39 PM
Sharjah24: Tamary Kudita is a distinguished fine art photographer, visual artist, and scholar hailing from Zimbabwe. Her work is a testament to her dedication to exploring the complexities of cultural duality, African identity, and trans-generational memory. Drawing inspiration from her experiences and the rich tapestry of African heritage, Tamary has built a career centred around fine art photography. Her unique perspective allows her to shed light on nuanced narratives that are often overshadowed by dominant cultural discourses.
Tamary is pleased to showcase her conceptually-driven fine art at the International photography festival "Xposure" in Sharjah.

During her interaction with "Sharjah 24," Tamary expressed her pleasure in presenting Africa to the world through her work. Her exhibition, titled "Liberty," features two of her best series of photographs. In these works, she subverts the idea of black identity by using Zimbabwean people as her subjects, highlighting the rich, complex, and multi-layered nature of African identity.

Tamary's work has received accolades, including the "Most Inspiring Art Piece Award" from The Voices of African Women Journal in 2020. She also became the first African artist to receive the highly coveted Open Photographer of The Year title at the 2021 Sony World Photography Awards. Her commitment to exploring complex cultural themes through her art has made her a respected figure in the art world. Her work continues to inspire and challenge audiences worldwide.
