Sharjah24: In an inspiring display of sportsmanship during the 7th edition of the Arab Women's Sports Tournament (AWST 2024), Dr. Nadine El-Shimi, Egypt’s Sporting volleyball team's doctor, came to the aid of Iraq's Akkad Ankawa Sports Club player, Norma Muneer, after she suffered an injury to her left ankle during a volleyball match against Sharjah Women’s Sports Club.
This act of kindness from the Egyptian doctor received widespread praise from all the teams present and the spectators of the Sharjah and Iraq match on Friday. It served as a powerful reminder of the sportsmanship fostered among competitors.
Expressing her gratitude, Norma Muneer lauded the doctor’s noble act, emphasizing that such conduct is expected and exemplary in tournaments that celebrate bonds, love, and sportsmanship. Muneer highlighted that the tournament is a noble Arab gathering, promoting unity among sportswomen.
The Iraqi athlete stressed the ethos of the championship, guided by the principles set forth by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Women's Sports. She said: "All participants in the championship hold the vision of Sheikha Jawaher close to their hearts, a vision that was embodied by everyone, including Dr. El-Shimi, who treated me not as a competitor but as a fellow athlete."
