Sharjah 24: Egypt's Sporting Club solidified their standing at the top of Group A after a superb victory over the Lebanese Byblos Volleyball Club on Day 4 of the 7th edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST). The Egyptian team swept the match on Monday in three straight sets, taking an early lead and maintaining their momentum throughout the game, with scores of 25-19, 25-20, and an emphatic 25-12 in the final set.
In the second volleyball match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Iraq's Akkad Ankawa Sports Club overcame a challenging start in the tournament to ultimately secure the first win against UAE's Fatima bint Mubarak Academy with an impressive final score of 97-75, spread across four intense sets.
The UAE team initially showcased their prowess by narrowly clinching the first set 25-23, setting a high bar for the competition. However, the Iraqi team demonstrated remarkable resilience, reversing the match's momentum in their favour. They dominated the second set with a 25-18 win, extended their lead with a commanding 25-10 victory in the third set, and sealed their win with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
At the end of Monday's matches, Egypt's Sporting Club secured the top position, leading Group A with two victories and a total of 150 points, followed by Lebanese Byblos Volleyball Club and Iraq's Akkad Ankawa, each with a win and a loss. The Fatima bint Mubarak Academy team remains in the fourth and last place with two losses.

Tuesday's games promise a gripping sports day at the Khor Fakkan Club. The day starts at 10:00 AM with Syria's Taldara SC going head-to-head against Jordan's De La Salle Club to compensate for their previous losses and improve their position in the group standings.
Meanwhile, Sharjah Women's Sports Club will face off against Kuwait's Salwa Alsabah Club in a highly anticipated match of the second round, in which the overall standings and the outline of the future champion will become clearer, especially after the impressive performances they displayed in their first matches. Sharjah's team secured a clean 3-0 victory against Syria's Taldara SC, while Kuwait's Salwa Al-Sabah achieved the same result against the Jordanian team De La Salle.
