Sharjah 24: Just a few weeks ago, writer and critic Izzat Omar left this world. The Arab Cultural Club in Sharjah conducted, on Friday, a tribute to his memory.
Izzat Omar, a prominent figure in the field of literature and critical thought, made significant contributions to the literary landscape of the Arab world and the United Arab Emirates via his countless influential books.

Maria Muhyiddin moderated the event, and guests included club board chairman Dr. Omar Abdulaziz and Sharjah Cultural Magazine editor-in-chief Nawaf Younis.

In addition to the family members and friends of the late Izzat Omar, the event featured readings and talks by Mohsen Suleiman, a representative of the Emirates Writers Union, Hussein Darwish, Salih Huwaydi, Islam Bushkir, and writer Hussein Darwish.

A presentation on the life of the late Izzat Omar, a member of the Emirates Writers Union and a native of the Syrian city of Manbij who attended Aleppo University and graduated in 1977, was also a part of the event.

He worked as an editor in the Sharjah Cultural Magazine, participated in numerous literary judging panels for several decades, and won the Sharjah Book Fair Award for Best Book about the UAE in 2019. He authored over twenty books, mostly focusing on Emirati narrative.
