Sharjah24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority is working to implement several projects to increase electricity production that would meet the demand due to Sharjah expansion and development.
During 2023, SEWA completed several projects, including Al Layyah combined cycle station expansion project with a total capacity of 1,026 MW and an efficiency of 58%, at a total cost of AED2.1 billion. It contributed to reducing carbon emissions by 2.2 million tons annually. The contract was also signed with a contractor to implement a high-quality water desalination plant project for boilers. The project is expected to be completed in April 2025.
Engineer Abdulaziz Abdullah Dimas, Assistant Director of the Electricity Production Department, indicated that in 2023, SEWA completed rerouting the gas line feeding Al Layyah Plant related to the Layyah Canal Project, at a total cost of AED25.875 million.
Three diesel fuel tanks used as backup fuel were also maintained, and the natural gas line inside the Al Layyah Gas Units Station was replaced.
SEWA is also preparing special engineering studies to implement the new natural gas line for the Layyah and Wasit stations for electricity production and water desalination.
