DSQC commemorates German honour conferred on Sharjah Ruler

The Grand Order of Merit, the highest civilian honour in Germany, had been presented to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah by German ambassador to the UAE, Eckhard Wilhelm Löbkemeyer, on behalf of Joachim Wilhelm Gauck, the then President of Germany, for his contribution to the nation and society at large. 

The Grand Order of Merit is conferred on German citizens and figures from friendly countries in recognition of their extraordinary achievements and contributions in the social, intellectual, political and economic fields.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi received the Grand Order of Merit, in appreciation of his cultural, humanitarian and social efforts that have helped strengthen relations between the UAE and Germany, specifically in areas that support humanity in the fields of culture, trade and tourism.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sharjah Ruler thanked Germany and German people for the honour, vowing to continue his efforts in service of humanity in its various fields.

It is worth noting that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi’s numerous visits to Germany have resulted in strengthening economic, tourism and cultural cooperation between the UAE and Germany, reaffirming the role of human relations to promote dialogue, peace and tolerance and reject extremism and racism. UAE and Germany have been celebrating universal principles of peace and humanity.

The Sharjah Ruler’s enduring interest in the Frankfurt Book Fair, his many visits to the Book Fair, and his keenness for the emirate’s robust participation in the fair have been noted and lauded by German intellectuals and public figures. The Sharjah Ruler’s various books translated into the German language have also found popularity and much demand among those keen to learn about the Arab and Islamic culture and civilization. 

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi has been perceived as the best ambassador and proponent of dialogue and engagement between various cultures and peoples, especially between the Arab and Islamic world and the West.
