Sharjah 24: On Wednesday, December 27th, Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler in Khorfakkan, inaugurated the fourth edition of the Sharjah International Youth Basketball Championship, which is organised by the Sharjah Sports Council in cooperation with the Jam Sports Academy and the Khorfakkan Cultural and Sports Club.
The opening ceremony, which took place at Khorfakkan Amphithetare, saw the presence of a large audience, elite officials, heads of delegations and media representatives.

The event saw the participation of 450 male and female players representing 34 teams from 7 countries, namely: Lebanon, Jordan, Spain, Serbia, India, Estonia and the UAE, the host of the event.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council; Dr. Rashid Khamis Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Khorfakkan Municipal Council; Sultan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Director of the Emiri Diwan in Khorfakkan, members of the Sharjah Sports Council, and a crowd of senior officials, representatives of government departments and institutions, clubs, and media representatives.


The ceremony featured short film about Khorfakkan and the tournament, and a welcome speeches by Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Salem Al Naqbi, and a third in the name of the coaches. The ceremony also featured performance of the championship oath in six languages, and in the end Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr received a mock-up of the championship logo marking its launch.
