The beach competitions kicked off Thursday, November 16th, and will run until November 24th and include water games, self-defence games, beach soccer, badminton, 3×3 basketball, and the triathlon, in addition to a number of accompanying competitions such as the fitness challenge, the yoga challenge, popular games, and a number of other events aimed to entertain the tournament’s audience.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Saqr bin Haitham bin Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi; Sheikh Faisal bin Haitham bin Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi; Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police; Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council; Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority; Abdul Malik Mohammed Jani, Vice President of the Council and Chairman of the Organising Committee; Dr. Obaid Saif Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of the city of Kalba; members of the Board of Directors of the Sports Council, a number of heads of sports federations and clubs, representatives of government departments and institutions, sponsors and supporters participating in the organsation, the visiting Romanian delegation and media representatives.
The opening ceremony featured various performances, heritage shows and a documentary film about the tournament, after which the official opening was announced.
Abdul Malik Jani, Chairman of the Organising Committee, gave a speech in which he expressed appreciation of the Sharjah Sports Council for the sponsorship of Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi for the tournament, which has become a sports festival and an annual holiday for the emirate’s fans. He said that the committee worked hard to present everything new and innovative with the various work teams in the subcommittees. It cooperated with sports federations and organising partners from inside and outside Kalba, including supporting entities and institutions, to provide it with all the ingredients for success. He pointed out that public demand is the basis of success and that the committee was keen to make them happy through a large number of entertainment activities that include all family members throughout the seven-day event.
Nearly 1,700 male and female players participate in the games of the third edition of the tournament, in addition to the accompanying games, which are: beach paddling, running, fitness challenge games, and yoga demonstrations.
A total of 853 members occupy the working committees of the event, including 152 for the technical committee and referees, 173 administrators for the teams, 450 volunteers, and 78 members of the subcommittees.
