Sharjah24: To gain insight into the programmes and initiatives provided by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) for its disabled students, a delegation from the National Agency for Persons with Disabilities in Djibouti visited the city from 10th to 12th October. The visiting delegation, comprised of Mr. Abdelkader Ali Abdi, responsible for Arab world public relations, and Ms. Mona Abdi Musa, coordinator of Arab world public relations.
Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, offered the visiting delegation a comprehensive overview of the city's various departments and branches. She highlighted the services provided by the city to individuals with disabilities since its establishment in 1979, with the aim of inclusivity, support, empowerment, and integration into society, in line with global best practices.
She emphasised that, following the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the directives of Her Excellency Her Highness Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, President of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), the city consistently strives to enhance collaboration with local, Arab, and international institutions, civil society organisations, the private sector, and universities. The objective is to ensure the continuous improvement and delivery of services in accordance with the latest international standards.
The delegation's itinerary included a visit to the Al Wafa School for Capacity Development. During this visit, Dr. Samia Mohammed Saleh, the school's director, elaborated on essential services such as diagnosis and evaluation using the latest curricula, standards, and testing methods, along with training and educational programmes.
Dr. Siham Al-Humaimat, the director of the Sharjah Autism Centre, emphasised the centre's pioneering role in educating and rehabilitating children with autism spectrum disorders and its significant impact on improving their lives and futures.
Over the course of the three-day visit, the agency's delegation also became familiar with the services provided at the Severe Disabilities Centre, which includes modified sports, domestic management activities, and music therapy sessions.
Mr. Abdelkader Ali Abdi and Ms. Mona Abdi Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the National Agency for Persons with Disabilities in Djibouti, established in 2018, to support and integrate individuals with disabilities into society. They stressed the importance of ensuring their fundamental rights and opportunities, protecting their well-being, providing suitable training programmes, and facilitating their access to appropriate employment opportunities.
The delegation commended the leadership of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, its global achievements, and its dedication to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families across various domains. They underscored the need for strengthened collaboration and coordination between the agency and the city and expressed their keen interest in future collaborations and knowledge sharing.
