Amidst the golden sands and ancient dunes, these carefully curated heritage performances will vividly narrate the timeless traditions and aesthetics treasured by the UAE's ancestors. They celebrated life's important moments in the diverse landscapes of deserts, coastlines, and mountains across the Emirates.
The participation of the 'Sharjah Institute for Heritage' in the festival showcases its dedication to safeguarding Emirati heritage while embracing global traditions. This involvement emphasizes how heritage, as a unifying element, enriches and connects humanity. The performances by folkloric groups not only celebrate the essence of Emirati identity but also illuminate the commonalities shared with diverse cultures worldwide.
Stunning Emirati heritage performances through ‘Ahal,’ ‘Al Maled,’ and ‘Al Welliya’
The heritage institute’s events will captivate audiences across the festival's stages and zones resonating through art forms such as “Ahal,” a traditional form of collective theatrical songs. These performances, enriched by the intricate rhythms of Nabati poetry, will vividly narrate the deep connection between ancient Emiratis and the sea, revealing their stories through emotive vocal renditions.
Another highlight of the heritage lineup is the fascinating art of “Al Maled,” which pays tribute to the life of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, through lyrical narratives. This cherished tradition, typically observed during the commemoration of Mawlid al-Sharif (the honourable birth of the Prophet), beautifully combines chant poetry and praises, evoking a profound spiritual connection among its audience.
Furthermore, the festival will be enriched by the rhythmic drumbeats of “Al Welliya,” synonymous with the cultural melodies of the eastern coast. Also known as the art of Al Masba', Al Welliya encapsulates the very essence of Emirati folklore through a cyclic presentation of seven poetic verses, theatrically delivered to the rhythms of traditional percussions.
Emirati folklore dances and other performances will be staged by female and male talents at the festival Marketplace. These performances will offer attendees a window into the UAE's rich artistic and cultural heritage as they enjoy a mystical exploration of handcrafted products, instruments, art, and authentic dining experience curated by local vendors.
Commenting on the participation of heritage groups at the festival, HE Dr. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Almusallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, said, “The Tanweer Sacred Music Festival is a significant and a meaningful addition to Sharjah’s cultural scene. It goes beyond the realms of music alone, to deeply connect with our shared Arab and Islamic heritage. Sacred music, a universal language, seamlessly encapsulates the ethos of cultures, making the authentic Emirati culture accessible to a global audience. The festival serves as a platform to share our rich cultural tapestry with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.”
The Tanweer Sacred Music Festival takes great pride in spotlighting Emirati folk arts, aligning with its mission to promote awareness of the ancestral wisdom ingrained in cultures worldwide. It underscores the significance of embracing one's cultural roots as a path to inner peace, well-being, and enlightenment.
