Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) is launching a series of children stories, during the 42th annual Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) that will take place from November 1-12, 2023, at the Expo Centre Sharjah, with the participation of hundreds of Arab and foreign publishers.
Fatima Ismail, Director of Dar Al Aman and Director of the Story Series Initiative, says that the publications are part of SSSD initiatives, under the title of ‘Introducing Innovative Means for Awareness and Insight,’ in addition to the publications and brochures that will be distributed with the programmes.

Fatima Ismail stated that SSSD saw the need to move towards writing interesting stories that carry lessons, values, traditions and characteristics of the UAE; and present the form of narrative stories for children and young people, especially since this age group has become interested in electronic devices and has moved away to some extent from books”

Fatima added that stories are one of the means of raising awareness, and that the initiative is currently working on transforming the educational and awareness programmes into picture stories that attract children’s attention. The initiative made sure that the stories’ content was appropriate for the awareness programmes, and focuses on three criteria: value programmes, protection and prevention programmes, and awareness programmes. What is new and striking about the topics that SSSD will work in the next phase to convert these programmes into animation movies in addition to theatrical works and stories, aiming to develop methods to raise awareness and solve social problems with proactive steps through theatre, stories and animation movies.

Sheikha Al Jarwan, social education specialist, has undertaking the task of writing the four stories. Al Jarwan has a fluid, clear, direct, and transparent style. The storyteller also avoided using difficult expressions because she was targeting the 6-12 year-old children.
