Sharjah24: The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) seized 65 Eastern Sandfish (Scincus scincus) along Khorfakkan Road in Al Bataeh. The move emphasises their responsibility and efforts in protecting the natural environment and maintaining its resources from harmful practices, with the goal of providing ideal breeding circumstances.
"The UAE places great emphasis on the environment and its protection," said Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of Sharjah's Environment and Protected Areas Authority.
In accordance with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, who emphasises the importance of the environment and its preservation, the breeding season is being highlighted due to its critical role in species reproduction and the sustainability of life in the environment.
This involves abstaining from improper desert activities and guaranteeing the protection and maintenance of biodiversity in wilderness regions."
"As a violation against those engaged in fishing during the breeding season," she said, "our specialised teams confiscated a group of wild sandfish in the Al Bataeh area."
