Sharjah 24: Al Qasimia University continues its efforts to offer specific programmes to qualify students with the rules of public safety and preserve their health, especially in danger. In this regard, Al Qasimia Universityt organised a training workshop on "Community Readiness and First Aid".
The workshop, which was held at the university’s headquarters within the activities of the summer camp “Our Summer is Happiness”, came within the framework of the objectives of the Dean’s Office for Student Affairs at Al Qasimia University, to qualify students and to raise their efficiency, for rapid response, first aid readiness, and direct intervention to prevent injury.
The workshop was organised over two separate periods, the first for male students and the other for female students. The workshop had an intensified theoretical and practical contents to provide students with information, skills, modern methods of public safety, basic rules for first aid, raising students’ competence, and providing them with experiences and life skills that help them to act in emergency situations.
The workshop discussed a number of important topics, tackling community preparedness in times of crisis, first aid, the importance of dealing with different types of accidents, and observing public safety rules when helping the injured.
The workshop also touched on taking the necessary measures for each injury case before the arrival of the specialised paramedics.
Ahlam bin Jarash, Assistant Director for Female Student Affairs at Al Qasimia University; and she explained that the workshop discussed ways to conduct first aid in a timely manner for different types of accidents, including bandaging wounds, burns, fractures, bruises, bleeding, insect bites, poisoning cases, respiratory diseases, and correcting mistakes resulting from misconceptions in dealing with accidents at home, before transferring the injured to health centres or the nearest hospital.
Ahlam Bin Jarash pointed out that the workshop also discussed the dangers of fires, in addition to a practical application in some cases that require rapid action with the participation of experienced students in first aid.
