Sharjah24: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of the College of Engineering at the University of Sharjah (UOS), in collaboration with Carleton University, Canada, organized a mini symposium entitled "Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for Traffic and Safety Analysis”. This symposium showcased cutting-edge advancements and innovative applications of UAVs in the realm of traffic safety.
Prof. Karim Ismail from Carleton University captivated the audience with a thought-provoking keynote speech that illuminated the utilization of state-of-the-art technologies in road safety analysis.

The symposium featured two additional presentations that further exemplified the groundbreaking research being conducted in the field. Eng. Rulla Al-Haideri from Carleton University unveiled an ongoing research project that employed real-world drone videos to analyze road-users’ interactions at roundabouts. This cutting-edge approach shed new light on understanding traffic dynamics and behavior among different road-users.

Eng. Lubna Obaid presented a comprehensive literature review that delved into the vast potential of UAVs in traffic and safety analysis. By exploring existing research and studies, Eng. Obaid highlighted the myriad ways in which UAVs can contribute to a safer and more efficient transportation system.

Prof. Khaled Hamad, College of Engineering, UOS, summarized the key points discussed during the symposium, as well as emphasized the importance of ongoing research collaboration between the University of Sharjah and Carleton University, and unveiled the potential for future groundbreaking studies in this exciting field.
