Sharjah24: The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) at the University of Sharjah (UOS) received a special delegation from the Sarawak State Government authorities, headed by the Honourable Datu Haji Kipli bin Haji Yassin.
The visit aimed to explore SAASST’s space exhibitions, research labs, observatories and the newly developed Sharjah Planetarium.
During the visit, Prof. Ilias Fernini, Director of the Space Sciences Department, delivered a brief introduction on SAASST’s scientific Departments, facilities, pioneering achievements accomplished at the local and international level, future strategic plans, space related projects and internship programs, as well as the specialized astronomy lectures and conferences held periodically at the Academy.
For his part, Mr. Marwan Shwaiki, Deputy General Director for Planetarium and Space Exhibition, stressed the importance of keeping pace with the scientific and technical progress, pointing out that the Academy is keen to receive various local and international institutions and agencies to become a science tourism destination for all segments of society. He added that the academy and the new developed Sharjah Planetarium has become a landmark and an excellent example for space organization who want to develop their facilities to obtain the best level of astronomy and space sciences education.
At the end of the visit, the delegation watched a special show at the Planetarium, as well as attended a documentary film titled “Deen Alqayima” which showcases the creation of the universe from the moment of the Big Bang until the end of the universe by Quranic perspective.
