Dr. Hamdi Kenian, Kim Min (Naseem), Lee Jae-hyun (Lateef) and Kim Ka-young (Shatha) were leading a panel discussion organised as part of Sharjah’s Guest of Honour programme at the book fair, and emphasised how the visit arranged by the ALA significantly improved their Arabic language skills and their overall understanding of Emirati and Arab cultures, which play a crucial role in building successful diplomatic careers in both local and foreign institutions.
Describing his visit to Sharjah as a remarkable exploration of the vibrant Arab world, Dr. Hamdi Kenian praised the city's authentic culture, and its rich repertoire across the fields of history, knowledge, art, architecture, and more, which have been built under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad AlQasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Jay Hyun made the most of an opportunity presented during a university-organised visit to Sharjah where the entire cohort took intensive Arabic language courses at ALA, delving into Quranic manuscripts, Arabic calligraphy, and more. The visit boosted their professional skills, enabling them to secure jobs in embassies and entities affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The world of Arabic poetry was what Kim Min found most immersive while taking the courses at ALA, noting that the experience was particularly beneficial for employees in the consular department of the UAE in Seoul. Min’s other favourite spots were the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization and the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy and Space Sciences.
Kim Ka-young expressed her gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for the invaluable opportunity to visit Sharjah and learn Arabic language. The visit enabled her to discover the rich culture, history and arts of the UAE, and enjoy an unforgettable desert safari in Sharjah where she was introduced to traditional Bedouin customs.
