The forum, which coincides with the Gulf Day for Learning Difficulties, targets non-Arabic-speaking teachers and specialists in schools, to raise community awareness about learning difficulties, highlight methods for diagnosis, and introduce the latest education practices and mechanisms and specialised treatment programmes in the field of learning difficulties.
The forum, held at SEA, was attended by Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of SCLD, and Dr. Janine Romano, Executive Director of SEA, along with a number of teachers and specialists.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), confirmed that Sharjah has made tangible efforts to support people with learning difficulties, guarantee their rights and provide them with the best level of education and care. Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi indicated that SCLD is keen to contribute to promoting such efforts, and employing the latest to qualify specialised professionals and develop teachers and specialist performance
Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi pointed out that SCLD believes in the importance of developing rehabilitation and educational professionals, whereas it is working on implementing specialised training courses that raise the efficiency of teachers and specialists, which reflects positively on their diagnostic work.
In turn, Dr. Janine Romano, Executive Director of SEA, praised SCLD efforts in organising innovative activities, events, and family and career counseling programmes, which contributed to raising awareness and knowledge on learning difficulties.
Romano stressed the importance and role of the forum in supporting and developing teachers’ skills, which is integrated with SEA efforts and endeavour to develop a recognised learning society at the local and international levels, including teachers and leaders with a high level of training and competence.
The forum was moderated by a group of doctors, specialists and academics, and included three panel discussions.
The Forum tackled 6 main topics including the most important teaching and education practices and mechanisms, specialised treatment programmes in the field of learning difficulties, most notably a review of the mechanisms of using technology with students with learning difficulties, methods of responding to intervention, and highly effective and evidence-based practices for students with learning disabilities, as well as highlighting the Kaufman test techniques for academic achievement.
