Sharjah24: The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP) welcomed a high-level delegation of business leaders from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) today, including a number of officials and business leaders, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
The delegation included the Deputy Secretary for Justice, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan; the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui; the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau. The delegation also included major players in the technology, innovation and sustainability sectors, and smart city solutions providers.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTIP, briefed them on key features, services and facilities the Park provides to investors, its current success stories and its plans to incubate more innovation-driven companies through world class facilities and incentives.

Mr. Al Mahmoudi said SRTIP was ready to provide Honk Kong companies with all facilities to work and invest in the knowledge sector, which is considered as a focal point of the park's vision and mission. He said among the advantages offered by SRTIP was the research edge because of its links to the University City, which could help accelerate innovation in different fields.

Al-Mahmoudi stressed the importance of exchanging investment experiences with Hong Kong, as Sharjah has become a key gateway for innovative industries, in critical fields such as 3D printing, energy, renewable technologies, digital transformation, and industrial modernization.

Hong Kong is a distinguished economic partner for Sharjah and the UAE in general, as the UAE is the largest export and import market for Hong Kong in the Middle East, with upward growth over the past ten years. Also, the strong relations between Hong Kong and the UAE are not limited to trade exchange, but Sharjah in particular is of great importance to investors from Hong Kong, as was evident during the promotional tour that the SRTIP made to China and the Hong Kong region earlier, and its participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Al Mahmoudi added, "The Emirate of Sharjah enjoys vital strategic location between Europe and the Far East, which makes it an attractive destination for investors wishing to establish headquarters for their operations in the Middle East. SRTIP is strongly placed to be an active part of these fast-growing economic relations between China and the UAE, and provide an attractive investment base to absorb Chinese investments in the sectors that the complex focuses on.”

The delegation was introduced to some existing research projects in the complex, including the Middle East Testing Centre for Manufacturing and the Sharjah Open Innovation Lab (SOILAB), the incubator for startups and innovative businesses in Sharjah.
