Big Ben's back in Britain after five-year restoration

November 11, 2022 / 1:20 PM
Sharjah24 – AFP: After a five-year restoration project, the world-famous Big Ben bell towering above Britain's Houses of Parliament is resuming daily operations and will be permanently reconnected from Remembrance Sunday on November 13.
Commenting on this, parliament timekeeper Ian Westworth said, "It's the sound of London back again. We started again striking it this week and all we've got is praise, people going 'oh, that's brilliant to hear Big Ben back again."

He added, "It's the sound of London back again. You know, the bell sounded through wars and it was just, we try and imagine what this bell’s actually seen. 160 years of London, the development, you know, when Big Ben was put in here, this was one of the biggest buildings in London."

The parliament clockmaker concluded, "Even though everybody carries a wristwatch or looks at the computer, they love listening to Big Ben. So we started again striking it this week and all we've got is praise, people going 'oh, that's brilliant to hear Big Ben back again'."
