Sharjah24: Syrian voice-over artist Rasha Rizq has stressed the need for more Arabic animation films that target young adults to broaden their horizons and unleash their imagination, noting that films with solid content and messages delivered in a creative manner are award winners at film festivals.
Her observations came during an inspiring Talk held on Day 2 of the 9th Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF), which runs at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre until October 15 under the theme, ‘Think Film’.
Speaking to a large gathering of children, youth and families, the popular artist pointed out that although most films touch on similar themes and values, what sets them apart and makes them successful is the craftsmanship and the artistic delivery of the messages that resonate with viewers. She further said that Arab history is a rich source of unique stories that could be transformed into great narratives for films.
During the Talk, the Syrian artist emphasised the need for animation films that highlight Arab culture and heritage as the genre resonates better with the young generation. Rizq noted that the Emirati sci-fi series Ajwan, where she does the voice over of the main character, has set a precedent in the Arab world and is the first-of-its-kind to draw attention to important topics such as women empowerment and the refugee crisis.
Rasha Rizq noted that film festivals help unleash children’s creativity and introduce them to world cinema, adding that SIFF is a platform that develops children’s artistic abilities by providing an immersive experience in the world of filmmaking through specialised workshops and activities led by experts.
Sharing her journey as a singer, songwriter and voice-over artist, Rizq said that while completing her university studies in 1996, she embarked on a professional career in this field after the successful recording of a title song for a show on the popular pan-Arab channel, Space Toon.
SIFF 2022, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, has a vibrant cultura agenda comprising 95 films from 43 countries and features 34 workshops and eight insightful talks with a host of directors, filmmakers as well as international trainers and artists.
