Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) held the 11th Age Forum, under the slogan “Paths of Positive Aging”, on Thursday, at Al Qasimia University coinciding with the International Day of the Elderly, which falls on 1 October.
This comes under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council.

In this occasion, Ahmed Al Meel, Director of Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD), stated that the forum is a celebration of appreciation and recognition for the elderly, which led us to what we are in progress and prosperity, and an embodiment of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

He praised the efforts made by the Emirate of Sharjah to provide a positive and sustainable environment for the elderly, and work to integrate them into social life, through their participation in most of the events organised by the Emirate.

He added that this enabled it to be an active member in the global network of age-friendly cities of which Sharjah is a member, in line with standards applied by government, local and private institutions, departments and administrations.

The winners of the "Green Heart Award" were honoured, and the award was launched by the Sharjah Age-Friendly Office in the SSSD, in its first edition, and is the first of its kind dedicated to the elderly, at the local and regional levels.

The 14 institutions that met the conditions and criteria required to obtain the title of age-friendly institutions for this year were also honoured.

15 local, Arab and foreign bodies participated in the forum, led by the World Health Organisation in Geneva, a key partner in the forum, that included 4 sessions focusing on different topics on the elderly.
