Sharjah24: The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) of the University of Sharjah (UoS) has now been approved to be a full member of the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF) as announced by His Excellency, Prof. Hamid M.K. Prof. Ilias Fernini, Deputy General Director for Research and Scientific Projects at SAASST, pointed out that IAF is an outstanding network of 433 space organization members from 72 countries, including all leading space agencies, companies, societies, associations, museums, and institutes worldwide. He stated that being a part of IAF means belonging to a worldwide community that cooperates daily to promote space activities, develop new technologies, and promote awareness of space among the government and societies, to involve them better and illustrate the benefits that might come from the utilization of space.

Every year, the IAF, with the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law, organizes the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) hosted by one of the national society members of the IAF. The annual meeting brings together the main players in space discipline and is generally held in late September or early October. The conference consists of plenary sessions, lectures, and meetings. The IAC is attended by the agency heads and senior executives of the world's space agencies.

The team of researchers from SAASST who participated in IAC 2022, held in Paris between Sep. 18-22, 2022, consisted of  Prof. Ilias Fernini, Deputy General Director for Research and Scientific Projects, Dr. Antonios Manousakis, Assistant Professor, High-Energy Astrophysics Lab, Yousuf Faroukh, CubeSat Lab, Sultan Halawa, Space Weather Lab, Ibrahim Al-Sabt, CubeSat Lab, Maryam Al-Ansari, CubeSat Lab, Maryam Essa, Meteorite Center, and Anas Omar Adwan, Radio Astronomy Lab.
