Sharjah 24: India honoured Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), in recognition of his role and efforts in preserving, protecting and sustaining heritage, and establishing good relations with various bodies and agencies concerned with heritage worldwide.
During his tour in India, Dr. Al Musallam visited several scientific, heritage and academic sites and places, and the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) where he was awarded honourary doctorate. The visit included the opening of the Heritage Museum in Kerala, a tour to the Sheikh Zayed Library and the CH Mohammed Koya Chair for Studies on Developing Societies. He also held cordial meetings with the Rector of Calicut University, the Governor of Meghalaya Province, and was the guest of honour at the 76th National Day of India.

In remarks, the Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, said: “We were pleased to visit the friendly Republic of India, and we had a wide tour that included several visits, most notably, the Arabic College Pulikkal in the Indian state of Kerala, University of Calicut, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, and others. We have always been welcomed and appreciated, as expected, as we have vital strategic relations with India in various fields, at the heart of which are scientific, academic and cultural relations.”

Dr. Al Musallam’s visit programme also included several constructive meetings with several officials and academia, during which a number scientific exchanges between the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and Indian institutions were discussed as well as the possibilities of signing a memorandum of understanding between the University of Calicut and the SIH.
