Sharjah 24: The curtain came down, on Thursday, on the event “In the Shade of the Palm... Heritage and Story”, organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), with wide participation from heritage and cultural specialists and enthusiasts. The event offered a rich and inspiring heritage atmosphere, serving as a distinguished platform for dialogue that brought together delegations from the Gulf and Arab regions.

Celebrating the Success of the Palm-Themed Event

During the closing ceremony, Aisha Obaid Ghabesh, Director of Events at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), delivered a speech expressing her pride in the success of the event. She emphasised that the palm tree was not merely the theme of the programme, but a symbol of shared values and authenticity embodied in Sharjah’s cultural events.

Honouring Participants and Collaborators

His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), accompanied by His Excellency Abu Bakr Al Kindi, Director of the Institute, honoured participants from the Gulf countries and Egypt, along with workshop teams and partner organisations, in recognition of their cultural contributions and outstanding efforts in making the event a success. A group photo was taken to capture this concluding moment, which reflected the spirit of collaboration and mutual appreciation.

Dr Al Musallam also received a special recognition from the Sultanate of Oman on behalf of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, in appreciation of the Institute’s prominent role in preserving and promoting Arab cultural heritage at both regional and international levels.

Heritage with a Message

For his part, His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam stated that the event reflects the Institute’s vision of using heritage symbols, such as the palm tree, to revive cultural values and enhance awareness of identity. He added that the palm is a living witness to the region’s history and a source of inspiration across various aspects of life.

He further affirmed that the participation of numerous guests from abroad highlights Sharjah’s growing stature on the map of Arab cultural engagement. He noted the Institute’s success in building bridges of cooperation and cultural exchange between peoples.

Enduring Cultural Bridges

His Excellency Abu Bakr Al Kindi, Director of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, explained that this event is part of the Institute’s ongoing efforts to reinforce Gulf and Arab presence within its annual programmes and to strengthen the concepts of participation and cultural exchange in a vibrant and interactive framework.

A Meeting Point for Global Heritage

It is worth noting that the “In the Shade of the Palm” event falls under the umbrella of the Global Cultural Heritage Weeks Programme organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage. The programme aims to highlight the heritage of various sister and friendly nations through live performances, workshops, exhibitions, and educational forums that foster cross-cultural dialogue and global cultural openness.
