Sharjah24: FUNN, a Sharjah-based organisation that promotes media arts learning among children and youth, recently hosted a two-day hands-on workshop to introduce Sharjah’s youth to the world of digital game development and enhance their communication skills and creative learning.
Led by Abdullah Fahd at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, participants learnt the fundamentals of digital game development using Scratch, a visual programming language and child-friendly educational tool that facilitates the creation of games, digital stories and animations.
During the workshop, participants designed a simple 2D game on Scratch after drafting a detailed prototype on paper. To provide inspiration, the trainer presented them with examples of well-known games with basic designs created using Scratch. At the end of the session, the young participants were well equipped in creating an intuitive user interface as well as a 3D-character controlled with a mouse.
The two-day workshop included several game design competitions aimed at fostering the participants’ creative skills, and winners received gifts from UAE Anime Store.
