Sharjah24: In accordance with the strategy and vision of the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW), which is represented in a sustainable civilised construction, the Department issued a guide and a special booklet under the title "Critical Risks and Golden Rules" for construction projects as an initiative to support and develop a culture of health, safety, and environment to enable projects to be implemented with the highest standards of health and safety to preserve the public interest, as well as enhance protection of workers, the public and the environment.
His Excellency Engineer Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Head of the Department, explained that this release comes as a continuation of the precautionary systems and procedures for taking into account health, safety and environment for infrastructure projects, in line with the scientific and practical approach of the strategic plan of the Department of Public Works, and within the framework of the project to develop the institutional system for strategic planning for the next three years.
Al Suwaidi also confirmed that this guide was developed in line with Executive Council Resolution No. (15) of 2021 regarding the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment and reduce the risks of potential injuries at work or exposure to diseases, to ensure greater production and reduce the cost associated with accidents.
Engineer Hind Al Hashemi, Director of the General Services Department, has lauded the efforts and long-standing experiences to achieve this project, in coordination with the relevant parties, shedding light on the SDPW’s keenness to ensure the health, safety and environmental issues during implementing its projects, in accordance with the best standards used in the developed countries. She also underscored the significance of the SDPW’s guide, reviewing its importance and health and safety requirements in various areas.
