Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Events website of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau has completed its technical and logistical preparations for the launch of the first edition of the Ramadan Padel Tennis Championship, which will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, from 18 to 24 April at Padel Point Stadium in Sharjah.
The tournament has generated huge interest in the Emirate with as many as 170 players from 35 government agencies registering themselves to form more than 80 teams including five teams that will participate in the women’s tournament to be held on April 23.
The teams have been distributed into 16 groups in the qualifying stage. The first-placed winners will compete in the knockout competitions, leading to the final match, which will determine the winning team for the championship cup.
The tournament aims to enhance synergy and cooperation between assorted government agencies and institutions in the Emirate, and promote a team spirit among its members through the padel tennis competitions, which are widely spread in society and among athletes. The championship seeks to enhance the status of the game in the country and refine the skills of its practitioners.
