Sharjah 24: Once again, the volunteer opportunity, "Khattar Al Dar" (Visitors of the Home) organised by the Elderly Care Home of Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD), is carried out during the holy month of Ramadan, to gather senior citizens residing in the Elderly Care Home with people, friends and family at Iftar. During the past two years, during the pandemic, the initiative was implemented remotely gathering residents and contributors through a large display screen, under the slogan "the Blessing of the House", which has been changed to "Khattar Al Har".
According to Maryam Al Qatari, Director of the Elderly Care Home, "Khattar Al Har" is a community initiative that allows individuals and institutions to communicate with senior citizens residing in the Elderly Care Home, during the blessed month of Ramadan attracting government and private institutions and community members to share the collective Iftar organised daily at the Elderly Care Home headquarters.
Maryam Al Qatari continues by saying that the organisation of the "Khattar Al Dar" initiative, dates back to 2016, and was well received by senior citizens, as it comes within the framework of promoting community cohesion, pointing out that the SSSD is keen to organise it in order to emphasise its social responsibility and programmes directed to the community, and to consolidate the voluntary, charitable and religious approach.
The Elderly Care Home also organises a number of activities during the holy month of Ramadan, which is "Iftar for the Fasting", where senior citizens distribute breakfast meals to the working group during Iftar time. Also, the "Zayed Humanitarian Day" is celebrated on the 19th of the blessed month of Ramadan, which is the day of the death of the late Sheikh Zayed, and pamphlets about the late and prayer books are distributed to worshipers in mosques.
The “Khattar Al Dar” event is organised all week days throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
