Sharjah 24: Since the early hours on the inaugural day of the 59th annual Bologna Children Book Fair (BCBF) the Sharjah Guest of Honour pavilion has been welcoming a great footfall of visitors, cultural experts, and language and calligraphy researchers.
The pavilion, which is designed to reflect the achievements of Emirati and Arab cultures in the children's book industry, has been busy with visitors – some who carried Arabic calligraphy references to compare them with the calligraphy paintings that decorate the pavilion’s façade.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), said: “Under the patronage and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Sharjah continues its mission to present the rich Arab culture, its historical achievements and ambitions through its participation in key international cultural events. These participations have strengthened the relationship between the Arab world’s cultural output and communities worldwide”.

He added: “We are welcoming scores of visitors, researchers and specialists whose knowledge of Arab culture and its influence on other cultures throughout history have led them to more questions on Arabic calligraphy paintings, children's books, heritage and artistic performances. The buzz of activity at the Sharjah GoH pavilion is a clear reflection of the success of our efforts in taking our cultural message to the world”.

“This year, we organised a special exhibition for Emirati artists and illustrators. The big turnout that viewed the displayed works in the exhibition were inquisitive with their questions, did not come as a surprise for us. What the Emirati artists presented in this exhibition calls for pride, great appreciation for their role supporting the journey of the Arab culture in general and children's literature in particular."

“Culture is a source of pride, and this pride is not just a beautiful feeling but a catalyst for growth and more achievements. This pride is reinforced when we present our cultural project on prestigious platforms such as this one and see our Arab culture celebrated globally,” the SBA Chairman concluded.
