Sharjah 24: Sharjah Municipality (SM) announced the organisation of more than 16,000 inspection visits to various industrial and professional establishments to ensure their compliance with environmental standards, regulations and laws regulating the workflow of these establishments.
Sharjah Municipality conducts periodic and sudden inspection tours during which it is ensured that the facilities obtain the necessary permits to conduct business, such as environmental permits, waste disposal permits and other permits. In addition to ensuring that the facilities apply safe practices that contribute to maintaining the safety of their employees and limit the impact of their activities on the surrounding environment.
In this context, Omar Al Muhairi, Acting Director of the Health Control and Safety Department at Sharjah Municipality confirmed that more than 29,000 environmental permits were issued during the past year, and 6,450 permits to approve vehicles for transporting hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
He pointed out that 13 control campaigns were implemented during the year, during which all administrative and legal measures were taken against the violating facilities.
Al Muhairi explained that the municipality has paid great attention to improving the environmental work system and aligning it with the strategic environmental and economic directions in the country, noting that the municipality has made great strides in achieving institutional excellence and operational excellence and compliance with national trends through coordination with various relevant local and federal government institutions.
