Sharjah24: Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) has concluded its annual humanitarian campaign, ‘Cookie for a Cause’, and raised AED 20,000 to purchase hearing aids for 90 hearing-impaired students at Al Amal School at Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.
The annual fundraising campaign follows the longstanding cookie-selling tradition of the global Girl Scouts and Girl Guides and is aimed at developing the leadership skills of Brownies, Guides and Senior Guides and enriching their experiences by undertaking different charity endeavours.

A group of 20 Brownies (7-10 years), Guides (11-14 years), and Senior Guides (15-18 years) volunteered to make and sell cookies in cooperation with the Paper Fig Restaurant & Dessert Shop at University City in Sharjah.

In preparation for the campaign, SGG members underwent five training workshops to acquire vital skills in developing strategic thinking, enhancing entrepreneurial capabilities, and learning the essentials of sales and fundraising.

Commenting on the campaign, Shaikha Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, said: “The annual campaign highlights and instils the noble causes that reflect the Emirati community’s values of giving and volunteerism. It helps develop a sense of social responsibility amongst all SGG members and encourages them to keep on helping others.”

The SGG Manager added: “This year, the funds raised through the ‘Cookie for a Cause’ campaign will go towards helping the hearing-impaired students at Al Amal School at Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.”

The Girl Scouts and Girl Guides’ cookie-selling tradition was launched a century ago to raise funds for guiding activities, which SGG has adapted for its annual humanitarian initiatives. Over the years, the campaign has contributed to helping various community segments including orphans, low-income families, and children with noncommunicable diseases.
