Sharjah 24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) delivered electricity services to 4089 sites, installed 18516 smart meters, and operated 637 transformers in different residential, industrial, commercial, governmental and agricultural areas in the city of Sharjah during the year 2021, as part of the SEWGA endeavour to meet the requests for electricity delivery as soon as possible according to the best security and safety systems.
Engineer Hassan Al Zarouni, Director of the Electricity Services Department, explained that SEWGA, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, is working to provide the best services to Sharjah residents and to apply best practices.

Engineer Hassan Al Zarouni stressed that the Electricity Services Department relies on technical teams and specialised professionals who work according to the best specifications that achieve security and safety in supervising the connection and operation of the electric current. Engineer Hassan Al Zarouni added that installation of smart meters has also been expanded, which provides advantages and benefits for SEWGA and customers alike.

The Director of the Electricity Services Department pointed out that to deliver electricity to the facilities, the electricity contractor should submit a request to connect the electricity service in the Department of Shared Services, after completing 80% of the project. Afterwards, the request is transferred to the competent authority to determine the feeding point to supply the facility with electricity, a field visit by a specialised engineer to inspect the site in order to make a final report on the facility’s needs of materials (meter - cable size and length), which is determined based on the required load.

After making sure that the fees, which include connection fees and materials, are paid, the meter is installed, the cable is extended, and the connection is made to the main point until a service connection certificate, certificate of completion is obtained from the municipality, and the electricity service for the project is operated.
